As part of the Boeing MAX safety saga, it has been reported that the input of seasoned pilot test groups may have been minimized in an effort to streamline the development process. Not having these smartest people in the room may have allowed the seriousness and potential risks of the new MAX systems to fly under the radar.
As a leader driving new initiatives with broad impact, to what extent have you involved the appropriate smarts across the organization? Are these smarts in the room? Are the smarts of your team appropriately involved in initiatives? Have key perspectives been surfaced sufficiently and prior to launch?
Even Boeing, normally recognized as an exemplar of safety and innovation, seems to have had a miss here.
