During the middle of an August heatwave in Phoenix, I started telling my wife and anyone else who would listen that I thought we were “turning a corner.”

And it was true. (Even if we LOVED the heat, there was no way it was going to last.)

I said this because it was true, but I also said it because I was tired of the complaining.

Weather, for more of us, is not worth complaining about. If you have an office job, it is only a mild inconvenience. If anyone has a right to complain, it is all the hardworking folks outside like those fixing AC units, building roads, or pumping oil.

But even for folks like that, complaining is a waste of time.

You can choose to focus on the things that are bothering you or you can choose to focus on those things that you want.

You can choose to be happy. You can choose to have a good family life. You can choose to be a success.

When you choose what you want, the path forward is clear.
When you choose to complain, you stay where you are.

Stay on the path to what you want and don’t let anything (including distractions like the habit of complaining) slow you or your team down.

Here are two quotes related to that subject that I like:

“Pain is part of life. Suffering is a choice.”
Alan Weiss
“If you are going through hell, keep going.”
Winston Churchill
