As part of her training to become an assassin, Arya Stark in the Game of Thrones series (remember the simpler era of fantasy dragons and “white walkers”?) was tasked with always reporting three new things she had learned to her teacher. Observing and sharing what is going on in the world is a good habit for aspiring assassins, and for the rest of us as well.
There is great benefit in reaching out and talking with people. I think many realized just how important their networks are over the last couple months. It’s just as important to keep those networks going now, and a habit I am striving to keep. We strengthen relationships and learn more about the world.
Over the last several days I have learned all sorts of interesting things, including:
- Segments of the hospitality industry are doing quite well. Those that are doing well are struggling to find staff for the lower wage positions and are having to bring in staff from other countries.
- Just as concerns are rising about increased incidences of child abuse, there are also legitimate concerns about rising incidents of elder abuse and neglect with less services open to them.
- A leader can do an “all hands” in-person meeting in a large factory safely; it just takes three shifts and standing at the intersection of the longest hallways to do it.
I think many of us have been better about staying in touch with people. The habit benefits us and those around us. Let’s keep this habit.
