Despite public rants and sound-bytes to the contrary, business is chock-full of good, productive citizens that care about both profits and community. Those working in free-enterprise organizations should be proud of the degree to which they meet the needs of customers efficiently, create opportunities for professional development, and add to the fabric of their communities.
This week I have interacted with leaders in large organizations, lawyers, owners of professional service companies, marketing professionals, consultants, realtors, and business owners. They are all shrewd business people. They all care about improving the lives of their clients and customers. AND they all care about their community. Business leaders can and do care about both people and profits. One does not preclude the other and business leaders should be proud of the special role they play.
