“That’s so dumb.” That’s what my dad told me years ago when I told him I had made a business trip up to Whitefish, Montana and back to Phoenix in the same day.
“Don’t you know Glacier National Park is right there??” he said.
“Oh, I’ll be back,” I answered.
But he was right.
I haven’t been back, and it bugs me.
Dad was right, you may not be ‘round this way again. So make the most of where you are today. It’s true of locales and it is true of the people we spend time with.
Enjoy the special relationships you have developed. Go back and express gratitude to those who may have invested time and energy in your success. Be proactive in expressing to your team how important each of them are to you.
On my recent trip to Japan I was able to meet with my old boss and several old work colleagues. It felt good to reconnect.
I was also intentional about meeting new people and have two new business contacts that I think will also become friends.
Take advantage of every opportunity your work brings you. It goes by all too fast and you don’t know when you will be going this way again.
