It was a somewhat funny glitch: my American Airlines app showed a big green “On Time” banner for a flight that was, in fact, delayed an hour.
I can read a clock, plus I believed what I was seeing at the gate (gate door closed, flight crew gathered outside, no plane at end of jet bridge) and not what was being told to me by the airline on my app.
Your team is the same way. They believe what they see, not what they are told.
Simply saying you have great culture, love the customers, are dedicated to excellence, and are committed to the employees doesn’t mean it is true. And your team need to be able to see it if you want them to believe you. Even lousy companies say they are great places to work.
Your teams are looking for proof. Be the leader who shows them these things are true. It’s true in life and leadership; actions speak louder than words.
