Josie was selling food truck coffee for five dollars but how she interacted with me made me feel like a million bucks.
She told me how her favorite cat was named Gary. She told me how Gary was her favorite name because of that cat. She pointed out one of the tiki glasses decorating the interior and said this one is called Scary Gary. She said the name Gary was special in her little food truck.
The interaction lasted just a couple minutes, but it came from the heart and it made the experience memorable.
Of course you want to make your customers feel special, but you must not stop there.
As a leader, you must make your team feel special too.
People not feeling connected with an organization and their leader is the number one reason leaders don’t have the teams they need to succeed.
If you think making people feel special is fluff or too much work, what’s the alternative? Making them feel average or less than? Just one of many? A means to an end??
That’s when people start to look for options. They start to mail it in.
Not making people feel special is a non-starter if you want a super team.
And super teams are the only way you will get super results.
Decide to be the one to make your team feel special. Show you care about them, their family, their health, their finances, and their aspirations.
When you do, you will get people who care about themselves and what this team is up to. They will want to stay and give their best. They will talk about their experiences with others. Your team will grow and improve.
Corporate is not a compliment. Show you care at a high level. You have everything to win and nothing to lose.
